At Elmwood Infants School, we believe that Design and Technology should be creative, practical and fun. We are excited to be using the Kapow Primary Design and Technology Scheme of Work, which provides engaging, hands-on learning experiences for all our children.

Through Design and Technology, our children are encouraged to explore, investigate and use their imaginations. They learn to think of ideas, solve simple problems and create products that have a purpose. By designing, making and evaluating their work, children develop confidence, resilience and pride in their achievements.

Our curriculum gives children opportunities to:

1. Explore and use a range of materials, tools and techniques safely.
2. Design and make products for different purposes and users.
3. Develop practical skills such as cutting, joining, building and sewing.
4. Learn about healthy eating and prepare simple foods safely.
5. Investigate how things work and create moving models and structures.
6. Develop creativity, independence and teamwork.

The Kapow scheme covers four key areas of learning:

1. Cooking and Nutrition
2. Mechanisms
3. Structures
4. Textiles

Through these exciting projects, children build important skills that help them become curious learners and creative thinkers. They are encouraged to ask questions, try out ideas and learn from their experiences.

At Elmwood Infants School, we want our children to develop a love of designing and making, and to understand that they can use their ideas and creativity to make a difference in the world around them.
